Being gay doesn't have to be a secret anymore. Recent news reports show that many more people are identifying themselves as gay or lesbian during their teenage years, and the number of high schools with clubs such as gay-straight alliances has grown dramatically. But while the bookstore and library shelves are crammed with straight boy-girl romances, there are very few young adult novels that celebrate the love story between teens of the same sex. In her trademark, darkly humorous voice, Julie Anne Peters has written a moving, compelling, and witty love story between two girls.

Keeping You a Secret is a contemporary, worthy successor to such classic YA coming out novels as Annie on My Mind and I'll Get There, It Better Be Worth the Trip, as well a companion to recent popular gay teen novels, including Rainbow Boys and Empress of the World. Author of 10 novels, Julie Anne Peters says Keeping You a Secret is the book [she] was meant to write.

Synopsis

National Book Award finalist Julie Anne Peters delivers a moving, modern classic love story with a "coming out" theme--now with a fresh, redesigned cover
With a steady boyfriend, the position of Student Council President, and a chance to go to an Ivy League college, high school life is just fine for Holland Jaeger.
At least, it seems to be.
But when Cece Goddard comes to school, everything changes. Cece and Holland have undeniable feelings for each other, but how will others react to their developing relationship?
This moving love story between two girls is for fans of Nancy Garden's classic young adult coming out novel, Annie on My Mind. With her characteristic humor and breezy style, Peters has captured the compelling emotions of young love.

I really liked this a lot. It really made me think about some ways that I could come out to my parents, but im really scared that the same thing that happened to Holland will happen to me. The characters i really hated in this novel where Hollands mom and Kirsten. I hated everything Kirsten was saying and I hated the things that were being done and said to the. In my school that is not a bug problem some discriminate but most of them except it. I dont like to read a lot but this novel and another one of Julie Anne Peters caught my interest and now I'm looking for all her novels. Thank you for writing novels like this.
