About the Author
Working amid the cheerful clutter that surrounds her drawing table,
Pat Cummings has illustrated such popular books as Jeannette Caine's
Just Us Women and Mary Stoltz's
Storm in the Night. Pat Cummings won the Coretta Scott King Award for Illustration for her drawings for Mildred Pitts Walter's My Mama Needs Me. Bradbury Press recently published their second collaboration, Two and Too Much, about which School Library Journal said, "What lifts this depiction of an everyday situation out of the commonplace is the immediacy with which Walter and Cummings convey [a young boy's] many conflicting emotions -- pride, selfishness, reluctant amusement, anger, worry, love -- in both language and image.
For her illustrations, Pat Cummings often uses her family members and her cat, Cash, as models. In writing her own stores, such as C.L.O.U.D.S. and Jimmy Lee Did It, she draws on childhood situations remembered with warmth and humor.
Pat Cummings and her husband, Chuku Lee, live on the scenic waterfront in Brooklyn, New York.
