An endeavour has, therefore, been made in the following pages to explain, in as Simple a manner as possible, such parts of the law as relate to subjects with which the profession is concerned. Legal terms have, as far as possible, been avoided, and theatrical cases exemplifying legal principles have been given in full. Some of these, it is hoped, will be found interesting from an historical as well as from a legal point of view. A few of them have already been discussed in the pages of the Era in a series of articles on the subject con tributed by the author.
