The thriving, peaceful planet of Izefia is disarmed by the greedy, resident demons and attacked by a universal plague known as the Black, which destroys everything it touches. When Izefia's sole protection, the Crimson Gem, is shattered into thousands of pieces and jetted into space, the planet is instantly turned to ruin. After the young King Alexander loses his love, Queen Aurora, he promises his soul to the Black in exchange for eternal life so that he might have a chance to save Izefia. Thus, Alexander leaves the last of his people to search the universe for the gem fragments. Along his travels, he encounters a young girl from Earth, Alani. She has an uncanny connection to the Crimson Gem and an even stranger connection to Alexander: Aurora's soul has unknowingly survived within Alani's subconscious. Alani accompanies Alexander on his journey during which he must learn to trust again and she must try to stay alive. The two explore alien planets, clashing with a justice-regulating robot force; a mad, lizard scientist; and the relentless demons. Along the way, they have help from a talking feline, a robot-raised girl, and an Izefian accomplice. This unlikely assembly of heroes vow to revive Izefia at any cost.
