Harper C.: Five Book Friday: Uncanny Graphic Novels (0 comment)
We are in the thick of winter here in the Pacific Northwest, which means it's dark, damp, and chilly. Rather than escaping to stories with warmer, brighter climates, I personally want nothing more than to dive deep into gothic and uncanny fiction as the wind rattles my windows at night...

The Dursleys were so mean and hideous that summer that all Harry Potter wanted was to get back to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. But just as he's packing his bags, Harry receives a warning from a strange, impish creature named Dobby who says that if Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike.

And strike it does. For in Harry's second year at Hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up new professor, Gilderoy Lockhart, a spirit named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls' bathroom, and the unwanted attentions of Ron Weasley's younger sister, Ginny.

But each of these seem minor annoyances when the real trouble begins, and someone - or something - starts turning Hogwarts students to stone. Could it be Draco Malfoy, a more poisonous rival than ever? Could it possibly be Hagrid, whose mysterious past is finally told? Or could it be the one everyone at Hogwarts most suspects... Harry Potter himself!

Synopsis

Home for the summer, all Harry wants is to get back to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry soon receives a warning from a strange, impish creature who says that if Harry returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike.

I love the characters and overall story, but these books sure do start slowly. Fortunately, she manages to work in most of the seemingly random things later in the book this time around.

This is a "just-right" book. Not too big, not too small, but just right. I loved: 1. Treacle fudge that cements jaws together. 2. Explanation of Quidditch. Rowling has some imagination. 3. Slugs coming out the mouth. No child could yell 'yuck' as I did. 4. The Sorting Hat reading minds. I will ALWAYS love that. 5. Moaning Myrtle. Ah, the list could go on forever. It was quite fun to be able to read this as an adult and knowing it was waiting for me as my nightly read, which made the day move so much quicker. Book Season = Autumn (to me it's always October in Potter's world)

This book is an old classic, and justly so. I read this series about seven years ago, and figured it was time to crack them open again. I am currently on this one and am loving every page. I am definitely remembering why this was and still is my favorite series of all time. If you have yet to read this series, or read the first book and are unsure of whether or not you want to continue with the series, I definitely suggest it.

This is an amazing, action-packed follow up to the first Harry Potter novel. I love them all, they are the best books I have ever read. You will love them too!

I had been worried after the first book that the rest wouldn't be quite as good, but this was wonderful. It was just as interesting and it felt as if I was actually going back to Hogwarts while reading it.

My absolute favorite of the series. It is full of adventure and mystery as well the first look at the true darkness of Lord Voldermort. I was rereading the series preparing for the upcoming movie and quickly realized why this was my favorite of the series. Even if you are not a Harry Potter fan this book is a must read.

I am a huge fan of Harry Potter books! They are amazing! I have all seven of them and some of the extra books J.K. Rowling has written to go with the Harry Potter series. I think J.K.Rowling shold write about Harry's later life after Hogwarts and everything else! I absolutely love these books and I think everybody should read them! You should seriously consider reading these books!

This is the second book in the WONDERFUL Harry Potter series. I loved the first book, but the second was even better. By this book you really feel like you know the characters. Like you are with them at Hogwarts exploring the castle and fighting off Voldemort. The last few chapters are amazing. Another MUST read! (I must stress that if you've seen the movie and don't think you need to read the book because of it, you're wrong! So much better!). Other books I recommend: Uglies series, Twilight series, and the Golden Compass series (I read this series when I was younger waiting for other Harry Potter books to come out, I loved it).
