From the author of Ender's Game, the soon-to-be major motion picture!

A powerful secret. A dangerous path.

Rigg is well trained at keeping secrets. Only his father knows the truth about Rigg's strange talent for seeing the paths of people's pasts. But when his father dies, Rigg is stunned to learn just how many secrets Father had kept from him — secrets about Rigg's own past, his identity, and his destiny. And when Rigg discovers that he has the power not only to see the past, but also to change it, his future suddenly becomes anything but certain.

Rigg's birthright sets him on a path that leaves him caught between two factions, one that wants him crowned and one that wants him dead. He will be forced to question everything he thinks he knows, choose who to trust, and push the limits of his talent... or forfeit control of his destiny.

Review

"This novel should appeal to Card's legion of fans as well as anyone who enjoys speculative fiction with characters who rely on quick thinking rather than violence or tales of mind-bending time-travel conundrums." School Library Journal

Review

"Card, ever the master storyteller, employs many familiar conventions of science fiction and fantasy — time travel, space journey, epic quest, court intrigue — but weaves them together seamlessly and in startling ways." Horn Book Magazine

Review

"Card's many fans will be thrilled by this return to his literary roots." Kirkus Reviews

Review

"Card buffs will find everything they love about the author herein, and with this impeccable novel, he will easily gain a batch of new fans who will eagerly await the next installment." Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books (Starred Review)

Review

"Fast paced and thoroughly engrossing, the 650-plus pages fly by, challenging readers to care about and grasp sophisticated, confusing, and captivating ideas." Booklist (Starred Review)

Review

"[A] fascinatingly complex series opener. An epic in the best sense, and not simply because the twin stories stretch across centuries." Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)

This is an amazing new book by Orson Scott Card. He has brought much of the excitement and intrigue from Ender's Game into this new series. As the first of more to come, Card has set up a new world with parallel stories and time travel. This was an extrordinary read and I'll be sure to get the sequel the day it becomes available!
