New from #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, a dark, fantastical story about this world . . . and the underworld.

Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.

But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.

Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.

But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.

** spoiler alert ** Okay. 2 stars...yeah, that's all I can give. I never really got into the story. It was pretty weird and seemingly uneventful to me. There was nothing that made me say, "Oh my goodness! I can not believe that just happened!" There wasn't any part that I especially liked. It was just kind of dull to me which is disappointing because I liked Meg's other fantasy series and this one is just something to read for the hell of it. Its kinda like Lake Placid. Calm waters and then out of no where your grandma comes to eat you in the form of a big alligator and you just had no clue despite the chomped up body parts being found and the disappearance of fish. Or of a b%&$&y grandma that gave you and your necklace that warns you of evil bad vibes? hmmmm...fishy. Bummer! But its okay, don't cry because you have your personal death deity to save you and take you to his big mansion in the ground. Oh your going to cry anyway aren't you? Well you just go on ahead. You will get over it one day even if it takes years... :/

But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.(Synopsis provided by goodreads) First off I wanted to like this book more then I did, for me it was just okay. I felt like there was just too much back story and it could have been condensed into about 50 pages. The flash backs were hard to follow, I had a hard time figuring out where one ended and where another one started. I found the middle and the last chapter the best part. The last chapter does give me hope for the second book. However, I think I may wait for the paperback of book two. I felt like I was missing something in this book, like there was a chapter or 3 missing from my copy. I think part of my opinion stems from the fact that I LOVE Greek myths and the Persephone myth is my favorite of them all. (Well a tie with Achilles.) The writing itself was good, the dialog was great, I do wish we had more chemistry between Pierce and John. I'll keeping watching Cabots books and I will read book two. Overall rating *** 3 out of 5 stars Cover art: Simply gorgeous can I get a poster? Obtained: My personal bookshelf.

I really enjoyed Abandon. Cabot gives us an unexpected take on the myth of Persephone. Her heroine, Pierce, is funny, sensitive, and lovable. The daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the world, Pierce can have almost anything she wants. Her near death experience tore their family apart. Her parents have separated; Pierce and her mother have returned to her mother's home town - an island far from her old life. Pierce handles this change - and all the difficult situations and strange twists - with sensitivity and humor. Whether it's the meanness or social climbing of her new schoolmates or her parents' fighting or her encounter with death, I found myself wanting to know how Pierce felt, what she thought, what she'd do next. Cabot gives us a wonderful love story and fascinating characters in Abandon. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to finding out what happens next!
