`	CHB , August 08, 2014 This is one of those books that you hesitate to recommend or even give to your friends. It's too good! First of all, it's a story of desire; not to be human, but to be free. Second it's a story of betrayal; and third learning to live. A machine shouldn't have such desires, a machine should do as it's told. Be warned, "The Alchemy of Stone" is really sad... keep your tissue handy.

`	Pandababy , May 24, 2009 (view all comments by Pandababy) Call it science fiction, steam punk, magical realism, fantasy or subversive feminist literature - whatever you call it, call The Alchemy of Stone good reading. The excellent and original quality of the story, the characters, the setting, the dialog would be enough to recommend this novel, but Ekaterina's deft handling of symbolism and fairy tale elements make it memorable, and a highly satisfying experience. This is a keeper.
