Bake sale has great drawings. At first it seems weird to have food being the characters of a story. But as you read the story, it seems to be sort of normal, albeit humorous. The story is very sweet. It’s about Cupcake and Eggplant, two very good friends. They help each other out and do some fun baking in the process. There are recipes at the end so you can make what the two friends made.

I received this book to write a book review of and this is my third review -- the second published. Geared toward older children, this graphic novel presents the life of a baker in NYC who struggles to be creative, make great products, and earn money for the trip of a lifetime to meet one of his baking idols. The details are good, the story is interesting but also teaches certain life lessons about work, choices, and friendship. The drawing is clean without being simple and a reader will learn a lot from spending some time on each page. It is, however, a bit creepy not from story or drawing but the very concept of the universe. This is a living food world, apparently both processed and fresh food, and they eat food just like themselves. There is also an odd moment where we see a poster with two humans on it yet humans are no where else in this world. Probably not a big issue for many children but for sensitive ones that might give them pause.
