I really enjoyed Pulley's first novel, and this one is even better. In the 1850s, a British agent of the East India Company braves the trek into the wilds of Peru in search of the valuable source, quinine, essential to the British navy. Deep within the jungle he finds a fantastic land of burning glass and clockwork gods. Adventure ensues and what fun it is! As in her first book, Pulley weaves a compelling strand of sorrowful love through the narrative, adding emotional depth to the fast-moving plot. Recommended By Kathi K., Powells.com
