I grew up on Sunset Blvd. in the 50's. In the middle of the street was a giant 1 acre roundabout circle surrounded by alternating pine and palm trees that screened us from traffic and the adult world. In the center amid the spring, waist high grasses, stood a giant pepper tree where we created our gunnysack swing. The grasses provided us with ammunition for dirt clod fights and places to hide. It was a hidden, mysterious, magical world in the center of this crazy beloved city. Jane's book catches the mystery, the magic, the dream and the memory.. I loved it.
