Powell's Staff: New Literature in Translation: December 2022 and January 2023 (0 comment)
It may be a new year, this may be a list of new books, but our love for literature in translation hasn’t changed at all, and we are so pleased to be enthusiastically recommending these recent releases. On this list, you’ll find a Spanish novel where controversy swirls around a Coca-Cola billboard...

Publisher Comments

These legendary stories, from the classic first fifteen issues of Bagge's Hate comic, are a defining icon of Seattle's early 1990s culture (the has written, "20 years from now, when people wonder what it was like to be young in 1990s Seattle, the only record we'll have is ."), as well as Generation X in general (as seen in such films as and ). This is the first time these hilarious stories, starring the hapless Buddy Bradley and his cast of loser cohorts, have ever been available under one cover, and never have they been available at such a low price (it would have cost at least three times as much to read all of these classic stories in any previous editions). Bagge's riotous tales of the early 1990s subculture are more hilarious now than ever, find out why he has been praised by R. Crumb, Matt Groening, John Kricfalusi, and many more. Comedy genius.

Review

"I can count on one hand the number of comic artists whose work is as strong... maybe on two or three fingers... It's a laff riot, what can I tell ya?" R. Crumb

Review

American satirical cartooning at its most inventively hilarious.Devastatingly accurate.Sheer genius.Mixes the Ramones, Stranger Than Paradise, and the Three Stooges. --Entertainment Weekly

Review

Peter Bagge is the funniest cartoonist in existence. Part of the secret of his humor comes from our shock at seeing people act the way people really do, rather than this whitewashed portrayal of so-called average people that we see in modern television and movies. The situations Peter creates for his characters are gripping, hilarious and bitingly honest. His drawing style is completely original and would be funny on its own, even without his great stories. This kind of perfect blend of art and humor is what we are all striving for. --John Kricfalusi, creator of Ren and Stimpy

so time has been lost, was it really the good times in the 90's, drugs and a whole fucking whirlwind of dopers and needles? probably not to some people but when you were there and feeling what everyone else was feeling jabbing yourself into the bandwagon creating the so called "grunge nation" was what made people feel like a whole. the truth and reality was what the 90's were all about, making sure you push people that make your life shit as far away as possible. people wanted to get it out, break free from the mad house in their heads, what better way than with banging out with spiraling songs that has at least 50 different meanings. people were better off that way; there for the title is a fucking title it is what it is just like life was just life.
