Synopses & Reviews
A comprehensive, authoritative look at the day-to-day, nuts and bolts responsibilities of the career counselor, from a global perspective.
This extensive revision of the highly popular text known and appreciated for its strong focus on the practical, day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the career counselor looks at careers from a global perspective, or a one-world economy approach to the issues. In it, theory integrates with practice through the use of case studies and examples that bring the concepts to life. Written by a leading expert in the field, Career Information, Career Counseling and Career Development allows students to sample the broad array of career options available to them, understand and deal effectively with the rapid changes in technology and how those changes can be used to foster career development and contribute to the assessment process, understand more fully the relationship of theory and practice, and relate more sensitively with clients regarding their age, gender, race, ethnic group, or sexual orientation.

- NEW! Students get plenty of opportunities to test and reinforce their understanding of the concepts through numerous advanced organizers, student learning exercises, and end-of-chapter quizzes.
- Krumboltz’s new theory focusing on happenstance (Ch. 5) has replaced the former chapter and gives students a new decision making model and approach to counseling which is unlike any others.
- A redrafted version of futures trends in the world of work using BLS data and other sources is covered in Chapter 20, helping readers to see that their clients are facing a rapidly changing world and to become aware of some of the forces driving the changes.
- A strengthened emphasis on career development programming looks at the idea that career development needs cannot be met through interventions, and that group and organizational interventions are required. (Chapters 15, 16, 17, and 18).
- The ethical standards and professional guidelines developed by NCDA, APA, ACA, and others are highlighted and recommended as the basis for practice.
