Children of the Unndis Sedna by Lynelle Souleiel is an enchanting YA urban fantasy that melds with adventure to create a wonderful reading experience. The narrative follows two teenage girls on a summer holiday - a long-time dream for them - who unwittingly find themselves with a unique quest on their hands. Odenpri and Sigali are out to uncover a hidden treasure and the odds are stacked against them. Apart from the deadly diseases, evil enemies, and death itself, they have to face the Mata Kovi. Do they have what it takes to fulfill their destiny?
Children of the Unndis Sedna by Lynelle Souleiel explores mystery, bringing together the power of the ancients with the fragility of two teenage girls as they seek to unravel hidden mysteries. Lynelle Souleiel's writing is very imaginative and the first person narrative mimics the voice of the young central characters and allows them to connect intimately with the reader. The quirkiness in character and worldview greet the reader as they open the first page. But there is a lot of wisdom written here and I was thrilled by the insightful writing and some succinct reflections on life in general. Here is one of the quotes that capture the philosophy of the book: "Our destinies are not necessarily what we desire them to be, but more so the tests of the masses that bring us to our own." Children of the Unndis Sedna is full of action, adventure, and humor, a brilliantly plotted story with characters that leap off the pages. A rollicking ride, indeed.
