Synopses & Reviews
This fast-paced, razor-sharp thriller delivers a message about American paranoia: it's alive and well, and sometimes it's totally justified.
Linus Owens is a 35-year-old professor of conspiracy theory at a small California college who spends his work day proving the sinister interconnectedness of seemingly random events. In contrast, his private life seems almost mundane. Linus loves his wife, Claudia, an advertising executive, and although their upscale suburban lifestyle may be at odds with the underground nature of his work, he's grown quite fond of the comfort. So when FBI agents arrive at his home and tell him that Claudia, who Linus thinks is visiting her mother in Chicago, has been killed in a plane crash on her way to Brazil, Linus's world collapses.
In his grief and disbelief, he sets off on a search for the truth using his network of fellow conspiracy theorists. When they uncover a link between a client of Claudia's ad agency and the government, Linus quickly finds that one conspiracy trails into another. The hard part is finding one that -- literally -- doesn't lead him to a dead end.
