Winner of the Bram Stoker Award for Best Anthology
Synopses & Reviews
In a truly distinguished collection of twenty superb, sublimely dark tales written especially for this volume, such acknowledged contemporary masters of horror fiction as Clive Barker, Ray Bradbury, Ramsey Campbell, Nancy Holder, Richard Laymon, Brian Lumley, Joe Lansdale, Whitley Streiber, F. Paul Wilson, and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro serve up a veritable feast of fear.
For the first time ever, Dark Delicacies, the world's foremost horror bookstore, lends its famous name and imprimatur to an anthology designed to please the palate of the genre's most discriminating fans. Throughout, the editors Del Howison (co-owner of Dark Delicacies) and leading horror anthologist Jeff Gelb present perfectly crafted, freshly original horror-fiction fare that is as terrifying as it is chillingly delicious.
Review
"Two standouts, Lisa Morton's story of a solitary abalone forager stumbling across a mass murderer, and Playboy cartoonist Gahan Wilson's about a macabre artist whose grim subjects may be all too real, sell the volume all on their own. Indispensable for both horror fans and, of course, Dark Delicacies' patrons." Booklist
Review
"[A] stellar cast of authors...providing a collection of stories that for the most part live up to even the grandest expectations....I'll be looking forward (hopefully) to similar summations in 2006, 2007 and beyond. Highly recommended." BookReporter.com
Review
"Twenty not-very-scary horror stories....Vampires, zombies, werewolves, necromancers all get their due, though in an uninspired way. Sadly, nothing here goes bump in the night." Kirkus Reviews
