Harbottle's Dictionary of Battles is a straightforward, alphabetical volume giving the details of many battles throughout history. While the entries aren't very in-depth, for folks looking to find the facts and figures of Waterloo (for example), I would recommend this book. Several obscure battles are also included, presumably for specialist readers. On the whole, an average read unless (like stated before) you are a fan of military history or looking to find specifics on a particular battle.
