Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I read this book last summer and it is interesting to see a different picture of World War II from a Pacifist's eyes. The reader also gets a view of what it was like to live on the home front during the war. We get such rare glimpses of that; how people were thinking and what people were doing. These men in the internment camps were intellectuals such as painters, poets, and politicians. They remind me of the ex patriots of Paris during the 1920s such as Hemingway and James Joyce. There is a lot going on in this thin, little book!
