Synopsis
First Son is an extraordinary collection of photographs by CD. Hoy (1883-1973), a Chinese Canadian photographer whose startling, evocative portraits of Native Americans, Chinese-Canadian and Caucasian subjects -- taken in smalltown British Columbia between 1909 and 1920 -- form an important historical and cultural document about the roots of 'otherness' in Canada, and in North America in general.
