Janice P. Nimura: Stand in the Place Where They Were (0 comment)
I’ve always loved historic house museums, loved peering beyond the velvet rope into a Victorian bedroom or a colonial kitchen and imagining the ghosts that wore those dresses, or worked the handle of that butter churn, or laid the fire in that grate...

Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school-that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it's really a school for spies. Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real "pavement artist"-but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her?

Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she's on her most dangerous mission-falling in love.

Review

"With odd inventions, beautifully described clothing, and skilled heroines, this alternate history offers much to enjoy." — Publishers Weekly

"...an overall sense of frothy fun prevails, bolstered by winks at genre convention (much is made of the always-foggy London crime scenes) and by three kick-ass females with complementary strengths and distinctive personalities." — The Horn Book

"The Friday Society is an explosively entertaining concoction-a mystery and an adventure folded around complex themes, draped in rich historical settings, spiced with Steampunk cool and laced with sharp contemporary wit. It's a firecracker of a read, packed with a trio of feisty, fiery, fiercely intelligent heroines worth rooting for. More please!" — Lesley Livingston, author of the internationally bestselling Wondrous Strange series

Synopsis

The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a fairly typical all-girls' school--except that it's a school for spies. Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but she's also beginning her most dangerous mission--she's falling in love. Hyperion Books for Children/Miramax Books

Synopsis

Step into Cammie Morgan's world of intrigue in the first book of the beloved New York Times bestselling Gallagher Girls series

Synopsis

An action-packed tale of gowns, guys, guns–and the heroines who use them all

Set in turn of the century London, The Friday Society follows the stories of three very intelligent and talented young women, all of whom are assistants to powerful men: Cora, lab assistant; Michiko, Japanese fight assistant; and Nellie, magician's assistant. The three young women's lives become inexorably intertwined after a chance meeting at a ball that ends with the discovery of a murdered mystery man.

It's up to these three, in their own charming but bold way, to solve the murder–and the crimes they believe may be connected to it–without calling too much attention to themselves.

Set in the past but with a modern irreverent flare, this Steampunk whodunit introduces three unforgettable and very ladylike–well, relatively ladylike–heroines poised for more dangerous adventures.

I just now went back to read book one. All I can say is why did I wait so long? Seriously, book one was just as much fun and just as funny as book 3. I love Cammie! This is one of those books where I wish the characters were real, I'd love to hang out with the girls and learn some spy moves. Macey is a hoot! I love her character so much! I think that the GA would be an awesome place to walk around in, right up there with Hogwarts! I am glad that all the books are out now so I don't have to wait for them to be published. The dialog is the best part. I love how Cammie is always on her toes and her quips are pure genius. If you haven't yet read this series, I would strongly recommend this series. It's a lot of fun and super funny. You will love the girls and the school. Pick up a copy today!

I give this book four stars because throughout the book I wasn't all that engaged. I did not like the ending very much and was a bit confusing.

What a pleasurable read! I am not a big reader, but I am on the 3rd book of the Gallagher Series. In the first book, I found myself completely connected to Cammie, the 15 year old who is unpopular, not confident, and feels as if life was against her. She has grown up a spy all her life and doesn't know how to grow up as a normal 15 year old teen. When her private, all girl's school goes on a field trip to the local carnival, she encounters this "hottie", who she swears was suppose to be the love of her life. As I was reading I felt happy, and as if I was the main character, or at least in the book. Sort of like reading a movie (if that is even possible). I did enjoy this book to the fullest of my capability. I do recommend adding this book to your MUST READ books list!

i thought this book is ok i mean there were some parts that were really good. The ending was very much a cliff hanger i havent read the other book yet but i hope it ties up all the loose ends.

I thought this book was really good, just not good enough for five stars, i hated the ending i must say. She didn't give you any clues about what would happen, it almost made me feel bad about myself. The story was unbelieveable, but i guess sometimes that is what fiction is. I really liked the character Josh, but the rest i wasn't so sure about.
