Could you describe your latest book, One Hundred Percent Me?
A little girl is used to hearing questions about her looks all the time. "Where are you from?" "What are you?" These questions are a constant reminder from others that she is different. As she embraces her identity and culture, she teaches others that she belongs, that the differences they notice are part of what make her unique, special, and herself....

A historical novel imagines the riveting story behind the Book of Ruth

Sitting beneath a tree in ancient Bethlehem, Osnath, niece of the prophet Samuel, examines a dusty scrap of parchment she found hidden in her relatives scroll room. Scrawled on the decaying page is an intriguing message addressed to Ruth the Moabite—great-grandmother of David, the future king of Israel. Compelled to discover the truth about Ruths life, Osnath begins searching for the identity of Ruths nameless lover and the secret that is cloaked behind his anonymity. But as she digs deeper into the past, she finds her inquiries blocked by Davids brother Eliab. What is the long-buried truth he fears will come to light? And what is the threat that Ruths story poses to his familys vast inheritance?

Eva Etzioni-Halevys novel deftly interweaves history and fiction to create a compelling exploration of a prominent biblical figure. Told through the voices of both Osnath and Ruth herself, The Garden of Ruth transports readers into the ancient world—and offers a dramatic and thought-provoking new perspective on a well-known tale.

Review

"Etzioni-Halevy...vividly evokes ancient Israel and the spirited men and women who called this striking landscape home." Booklist

Review

"A brazen rendering of the biblical material breathes fire into a ripping good saga." Kirkus Reviews

This is a story within a story. The main tale about Osnath is boring and hard to plough through, written in stilted language and sprinkled with unrealistic semi-steamy sex scenes. But I hung on and, finally, on page 157, arrived at the "original" text that Ruth herself wrote. This part of the book is an interesting explanation of what might have happened before, between and after the lines of the Ruth of the bible.
