Review

"[T]rue to its roots, [the series] ends...with good old-fashioned closure: a big-screen, heart-racing, bone-chilling confrontation and an epilogue that clearly lays out people's fates....While Ms. Rowling's astonishingly limber voice still moves effortlessly between Ron's adolescent sarcasm and Harry's growing solemnity, from youthful exuberance to more philosophical gravity, Deathly Hallows is, for the most part, a somber book that marks Harry's final initiation into the complexities and sadnesses of adulthood." Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times

Review

"I'm amazed, when I sit back, at the sheer, immensely complicated arc of the story; Rowling has always said she had the entire seven-book series plotted out from the very beginning, and it's clear she did....Rowling winds up her tale with a stunningly beautiful simplicity. As an added flourish, she gilds it with a moving epilogue, one that brought tears to my eyes." Entertainment Weekly

Review

"It's hard to imagine a better ending than the one she's written for her saga....Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows may be a miracle of marketing, but it's also a miraculous book that earns out, emotionally and artistically." Elizabeth Hand, The Washington Post

Review

"[A] triumph. Its weaknesses become a source of strength, like the scar on Harry's forehead, and the seventh and last novel in J.K. Rowling's series turns out to be the best one." The Oregonian

Review

"Book 7 is no less penetrating, but it lacks much of the charm and humor that distinguished the earlier novels. Even the writing is more prosaic, less fanciful....[W]hat it may lack in sprightliness, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows makes up for with hard-won wisdom..." Baltimore Sun

Review

"It's a great read. Don't be sad that it's over — to be complete, a finished, fully realized creation, Harry's tale had to end. We had to know what would finally happen to him, and now we do. I'm satisfied, and I can't wait to see the movie version of this last book." Philadelphia Inquirer

Review

"Seventh time's the charm. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows isn't letter-perfect, but it's the most captivating book in J.K. Rowling's series. Dramatic, poignant and deftly plotted, it's a classic yarn." Kansas City Star

Review

"[A]n exhausting, gut-wrenching experience....It is very, very good. Rowling's seventh novel shows she's mastered her craft: All her powers are on display here — the magnificent imagination, the keen wit, and, most of all, her tremendous gifts as a mystery writer." Miami Herald

Review

"[W]hat Rowling has achieved in this book and the series can be described only as astonishing. Just as her characters have matured, the language and tone of the books have grown in sophistication and lyricism. But she has never lost the sense of wonder that has propelled her into literary legend." Los Angeles Times

This is a great book! For only three dollars...wow. I completely agree with Brian...this is such a touching book, it really has quite a few morals - it teaches you a lot about life, surviving, etc. I actually cried when Snape showed Harry his memories of Lily Potter - I never cry in books! J.K. Rowling is such an amazing author - Thank you so much, Joanne, for these books; may you live a happy and content life! Thanks, Olivia S

This is the last chapter in the Harry Potter story. I've just finshed reading the saga again for the third time and I enjoyed it once again as much as the first time. Ms Rowling has created a lasting classic in these stories that will rival the original Peter Pan and The Wind in the Willows. Two more classics that I read at least once each year even though I'm on the south side of fifty. Harry Potter embodies the virtues of perseverance and belief in yourself. Two very worthy ideals. Besides whatever we Boomers read into the stories, Harry Potter will forever remain an entertaining saga that will capture the hearts of young readers for years to come and in the reading will highlight virtues that most of us can only wish we had learned and followed in our years gone past. The next time you pick one up, start at the beginning and follow the heroes along their path and remember what you too could have done, if only you had the gift of time.

I'm so sad this is over now, I actually cried when it ended because I was so sad the series was over. It didn't disappoint in terms of being the last book and I really hope J.K Rowling will continue to write maybe a Hogwarts based book. A great book!

The conclusion of J.K. Rowling's beloved Harry Potter series was my favorite book. It was able to draw out many different emotions through the entire story. I loved how she was able to create a sense of dereliction and hopelessness for the reader by "dragging out" the scenes where the trio keep traveling to stay ahead of the Death Eaters, leading up to Ron's departure. The entire story was intense, yet Rowling kept it lively with our favorite comic relief characters sprinkling laughter and lightheartedness throughout. Who else but Fred and George can make ear jokes following such an awful event? Rowling wrote with laughter, pain, abandonment, hope, disaster, and triumph. She perfectly demonstrates that its not about making the choice between right or wrong, its about the choice between what is right and what is easy.

The best book of the best book series ever. This book is just a non-stop adventure. It doesn't take long for the action to begin and it never lets up. Rowling has created some of the most memorable characters ever.

You cannot discuss books in the first decade of the 2000’s without talking about Harry Potter. The kids books that everyone was reading. Deep down, we all knew Harry, Ron and Hermione were going to be OK. We loved them, and they were protected by our love. But we had to read the book to find out how. How would love trump evil. If a book is measured by how much it is loved by others; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (or better yet, books 4-7) is a clear winner for this decade.

Of all the Harry Potter books, this one kept me on the edge of my seat more than the others. Each chapter in this final book is the spine-tingling equivalent to an entire book in the series. Love the entire Harry Potter series but the final book is the best! What a way to end the story.

This seventh installment of Harry Potter's coming of age tale in a world fraught with obstacles and danger speaks to our imaginations with more gravitas than the preceding works, coming off the darkness of HBP. We who were entranced from the beginning by J K Rowling's masterful creation of the magical world shadowing our muggle existence learned valuable life lessons, including that even wizards are mortal, as are we, and misjudgement can lead to death. Not every mishap can be vanished with the wave of a wand. It is a somber summary, but we who have made the journey to this point, so many of us, have surely grown up with an increased awareness of our personal responsibility to ourselves, friends and families. Well done, indeed, Harry Potter!

I'm not sure if this is my favorite book of the series or if the series is my favorite of the decade, but however you look at it, this series changed how everyone, young and old, reads. No longer is reading reserved for the "bookworm," Rowling made it cool for everyone to read and being the first one to possess any Harry Potter was the height of cool. I applaud Rowling for doing what so many before her tried to do - she gave all of us a hero who had to learn how to accept himself. She gave us a setting we've all wished for at one time or another. She gave us a story we could all accept as a reality, knowing full well it didn't exist. She gave me (us) a story I couldn't wait to read, then started to cry when it came to a close. She gave me (us) the story of the decade.

JK Rowling kept us captivated for 10 years with her tantalizing words about Harry and his magical friends. Each book just got better and better with each new installment and I never tired of re-reading the entire series before the release of the new one. The release of the final book was bittersweet, because although it was by far the best in the series, it also marked the end of an epic adventure I'd enjoyed for many years. It reinvigorated an entire generation of children to read, brought families together, and is just fantastic in every way. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows delivered everything - it was the perfect ending to an amazing story. It is a series that I will continue to re-visit, and I cannot wait to read it to my children.

Counting only newly published books in the last decade, The Deathly Hallows is a treasure - not only did it neatly tie together the many colored-threads, themes, and threats of the 6 preceding novels into one satisfying tapestry depicting good triumphing over evil, it delivered satisfying, lingering final images. Loving families, reunion, redemption, and resolution. I was reluctantly convinced by a grandson to read the series, and enjoyed the surprisingly great ride from mid-October to just before Thanksgiving, reading one after another!

It's hard to adequately describe how satisfying a conclusion this book is to the series. I have read very few books that so completely tie up loose ends, and illuminate so many intertwined connections, present yet unsuspected throughout the entire story arc. I think any fan of the series knows how the books inevitably must end, but the twists of plot and characterization keep the reader completely entranced. I was not prepared for the exploits, the secrets, the anguish and triumph carefully planned by Ms. Rowling. She is a true master of the craft, and this book is the pinnacle of a truly fantastic tale.

Before Harry Potter, I didn't read "young adult" books. I barely read any fantasy. And J. K. Rowling not only hooked my interest, she cemented it firmly in a genre I had overlooked. Deathly Hallows will always stick in memory because I've never been as sad reading a book as the scene when Harry returns to Godric's Hollow and sees his family's home destroyed. It's the scene that defines the series for me...he lost everything he never knew he had and decided to fight the evil that cost him his idyllic childhood. In addition to the sadness is the amazing ending, where many argue that he should have been killed (but I believe it ended perfectly, though a longer epilogue would have been fantastic). I recommend this book, not only to children, but to all who want to spend 7 books worth of highs and lows loving this amazing world J. K. Rowling has created and wishing it could last just a little bit longer.

Praise for the masterful story-telling of J.K. Rowling is sung for all of the Harry Potter books, but her brilliance culminates in the series' conclusion. Rowling brings the reader deeper into the purpose and weight of Harry's journey. He faces evil head on, and along with those who love and fight beside him, the joys and losses are remarkable. I did not want the story to end, but it ended so well that I was well satisfied.

The final installment of the Harry Potter saga brings all the lose ends of the past six books together tied in a nice little bow. Not only does the book dip back into the past but gives us a glimpse into the future of our beloved characters. If you have followed the series you will find this book to be a great way to close the series; its full of growing up, lessons about life, and the importance of family.

I bought the first Harry Potter book to see what my grandson was excited about. I was hooked. I own every book and all the dvds released to date. I looked forward to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with great anticipation and great dread. What if I didn't like the ending? What if Harry died? Or Ron? Hermione? How could Harry defeat Voldemort? What if the entire book sucked????? So it was with relief, charm, wonder, and admiration for Ms. Rowling that I finished this book in less than two days. I did stop to sleep. I sighed in repletion, and started over, immediately re-reading it front to back at a much slower pace, savoring those bits I had skimmed over the first time through. Thank you, Ms. Rowling. It was magnificent.

I could not wait to read this last Harry Potter book after reading the previous ones. I was hoping the author would not kill off Harry or his good friends. I read this book in a very short time, It was the best one of the series! I am 62 and have loved the Harry Potter books from the beginning. What an incredible book... let alone a series! The Harry Potter tales have grasped our interest since the 1st page of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", and haven't disappointed ever since! All of the Harry Potter books are brilliant, but I feel that the "Deathly Hallows" stands out in a way the others didn't quite do. It is only viewed this way if you have read the other 6 books first, otherwise, this book will make no sense. All the secrets the previous books have held, all the questions the readers of the books have had, are finally answered in this exciting, compelling, and true gem of a novel. J.K. Rowling has such a miraculous way of expressing each of the 7 stories that I've never read anything like them! If you are looking for true literature, not sappy vampire/werewolf books, this is your series! Enjoy!

Just when you thought that Rowling had an impossible task to tie up all the loose ends to the series in a satisfactory bow, she astonishes us by incorporating the entire story arc of the deathly hallows into this perfect series finale. The writing is crisp, the plot is perfect, and every last emotion is exhausted in the reader by the end of the book (including the great epilogue). Without a doubt, Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the best book of the decade! No other book was so highly anticipated, and so rewarding for excited readers of all ages. Like many, I waited in line at the bookstore until midnight, along with my young daughter, as we celebrated with trivia and predictions and counted down until the moment the book was in our hands. We read it cover to cover as quickly as possible over the next few days, pausing momentarily to discuss and to try to eat and sleep, then dove back in to the fascinating world of Rowling's creation. When we finished it, we cheered, discussed, then promptly began reading it all over again. The Puddly Award must go to the talented author who put an enchanting spell over us through the adventures of the boy who lived and captivated readers so powerfully!

well what can i say the whole wizarding based series was completely new and fresh to start with and it definetly needed a defined ending to become the icing on the cake. This book is brilliant it really did top it all off kinda thing as Harry, as well as the other characters, develop more into well rooted and confident characters. The use of language and excellent description really capture the scenes as if you were there. well done j.k Rowling one of my favourite storylines lets hope the film of this book can do it just xx

This book is AMAZING when I first read it, I was nervous because of how great the other six books were, I was afraid that J.K. Rowling wouldn't be able to make a book that was good enough to complete the Harry Potter series. I was wrong. This book is BY FAR one of the BEST books that I have EVER read, and probably ever WILL read!! I STRONGLY recommend the whole series to readers of all ages, there is no limit to how young or old you must be, these books are for EVERYONE!!! PLEASE read them!

I was slow to the Harry Potter craze...but I was in on it soon enough to be at a midnight release party for the last book. And I wasn't disappointed! Her books are so amazing and well ploted. It's hard to suprise me in a book, or a movie for that matter, and when they can do that both successfully and believably, I am always impressed. And J.K. Rowling is a master at impressing me! This last book was wonderfully written and I loved how she ended the series. I was definetly satisfied. I just wish there were more books in the series!

This book is wonderful! I read it in 2 days- read it 5 times more afterwards- cried through books 6and 7. I'm 61 years old and my grandaughter got me hooked on Harry Potter from the first movie. I think J.K. Rowling is absolutely fantastic - wonderfully gifted and thank you for your gift of Harry Potter! When my life becomes to complex, I can enter Harry's world and escape mine for a while. These books have touched my heart-and I will continue to reread them- they have become part of me.

This delightfully wonderful finish to a series that will forever last in the world of books leaves the reader with a feeling of accomplishment. After so many years of patiently devouring the wonderful books of J.K.Rowling this final book is her flourishing signature to the world of truly wonderful works of art.

It was really upsetting to hear about all the spoilers floating around the internet, and I'm sure JK Rowling wasn't exactly pleased with it either. People like to ruin things for others, or maybe people just have nothing better to do than pretend to hate something so they can torture us all. But I digress. Hearing spoilers before the book came out didn't ruin it's impact on me, and it surely didn't impact sales any. It would be completely ridiculous to not read this book if you heard spoilers, especially after everything that we Harry Potter fans had been through. Six other books, five movies, so much merchandise that I'm surprised my room hasn't caved in or collapsed from my collection. It really is fantastic to be a Potterhead, isn't it? Really, a lot of people may not understand it, but they honestly don't know what they're missing out on. Now, onto the book. Obviously, I loved it. Each and every chapter. I gobbled the entire thing down in ten hours or so and literally could not stop until I had absorbed each word. In that ten hours, it was an obsession, an addiction, one of those things I desperately needed for my life to be complete. And I quite literally mean complete. Complete is such a taunting word, however. The end of something like this is always going to be eagerly wanted, but what happens when you finally get it and come to terms with the word complete? And over? Finished? No more? I don't really know. It's still hard to believe that so much time has gone by. In a way it almost feels like it's still July and there are people sporting Hogwarts apparel left and right. I loved each and every character in Deathly Hallows, and even if the fates of them all weren't entirely eagerly received from me, I still love them. It was the ending I wanted. I mean that both with the actual plot of Harry, that involving him and Voldemort, but also with my favorite pairings that I was desperately CRAVING to just get it on already. This explains why I'm in the majority who like the epilogue. This is a work of sheer genius. JK Rowling knows how to write a novel, and there will never be anything like the Harry Potter series again (so stop trying, people). I wish there could be 70 books instead of just 7, but I suppose it's time to let Harry finally enjoy that peace he'd been wanting all his life. Another great author worth reading is Tino Georgiou and his novel The Fates. An amazing read, highly recommended!!

At last! All those niggling questions answered. The satisfaction of having everything wrapped up and the poignant moments contained in Rowling's final installment make up for the somewhat choppy action sequences. Also I noticed that the portrayal of Voldemort lacked the icy fear that a reader felt in earlier books. However the overall work was quenching for this reader's deep thirst.

In addition to everything good that has been said about the writing, plotting, and creative skills exhibited in the entire series, I would add that this book, of all the series, connects most warmly and movingly with the human nature beneath all the wizardry. Harry Potter truly shines.

So that readers do not misunderstand, permit me to introduce myself. I am 63, a retired 24 year US Military Veteran: three tours in Vietnam, courtesy back then of the US Navy and the First Gulf War, courtesy of the US Army Reserve. Long story. I have an extensive reading and research history that includes the Classics, Non-Fiction, Science Fiction, and what passes these days, defined euphemistically, as ?New Age?. I am a student of very Ancient History. I have studied the history of ?Human Warfare?, emphasis mine, from the time of the very first Nuclear War fought on this planet to the rise of the Sumarian Empire, and up through the so called ?Modern Era?. From my perspective, the Harry Potter ?saga? is a clear tale born in the concept of what defines Human Moralities ?successes?, and ?failures? that have prompted Human Warfare through out history in all of its destructive forms. The rise and fall of Human Civilizations across the width and breath of History are clearly represented in this timeless tale of the rise of the ?Master-of-Evil?, his minions, and the efforts of the opposing Humans, who, having been taught the virtues off Morality, however ?magical? you wish to perceive it, conduct their campaign against EVIL. As in any WAR, there is always life and death! J.K Rawlings has presented the youths, and the elders, of our current ?Civilization?, again my emphasis, with a vast saga of the lone Hero and his Friends, struggling against the adversity of their place in Human History. It has a clear message that is MUCH needed today: Family, Friends, and the Schools in which they are taught, are the Cornerstones and Foundations of a Civilizations Morality. The bulwark, the dam, the building blocks if you must, for countering EVIL in all its many and varied forms.

The 37-year-old Harry Potter fan that I am, I know I am not JKR's target audience. That said, I was disappointed by some of this installment's contrivances, repetition, and lack of smart and witty dialog. For example, some of the clues Harry, Ron, and Hermione seek just sort of appear out of nowhere, causing this reader to pause and raise an eyebrow, and more than a couple battles conclude with Harry regaining consciousness, having blacked out at the end. However these disappointments did not stop me from inhaling the book; I was definitely hooked. The battle cry of Dumbledore's Army was chilling and exhilarating, and the final show down pretty satisfying, too. One thing though: did an editorial assistant write the epilogue? Seriously?

JK Rowling has written a masterpiece! The underlying themes of honesty, truth, free will to make choices and bear the consequences, the power of love, forgiveness, redemption, sacrificial love, the preciousness of life are all strongly Christian values rebuking those who accused her of being anti-Christian or at the least, promoting witchcraft. Magic took a back seat to the values noted above. I am thankful that Rowling's book promotes reading and Christian values among young people when both are waning under societal pressures of shallow television and liberalism. A generation grew up with Harry, experiencing his teenage angst, loves and losses, choices and consequences. Many of those youth received impressions that will last a lifetime.

Excellent review. If the overarching message of the book series does indeed come down to the importance of family, living well together in this dangerous world, and the power of love to conquer evil, then I understand why millions of people all over the world are reading this book right now in many different languages. We need this story. Can we use love to conquer evil, be guided by our wise elders, and live peacefully with those Muggles, those people who are so different, and just aren't as magical as us, whoever they are?

Rowling tried to do too much here. Did there really need to be 7 Horcruxes? And the Deathly Hallows? It detracts from emotional themes that could draw you in more tightly. I think Rowling did have the whole series in mind when she began writing. But that was part of the problem. The overall plot took over, and characters became impoverished. Harry works as a symbol but not as a felt character in this book. Snape is irrelevant. Albus is made to look callous and manipulative, when it could have been otherwise. Ron and Hermione squabble while a world war is going on. And the role of magic seems confused. Sometimes defense against dark magic comes from love and sacrifice, but other times it seems to require magic too. And Voldemort may be evil, but here he comes across as dumb.

I just finished the book this morning and it was an emotional finish to what is definetely the most amazing series of books and characters that I have ever experienced. I took my time in reading it and enjoyed every minute of it! I was extremely excited to read it and wasn't dissapointed at all. It was by far my favorite book in the series and I do hope that the movie proves to be just as awesome when it comes out in a couple of years. I was overall thrilled with the ending and cannot say much else besides that! I cried, I laughed, and I screamed several times at rough parts. However, I praise the book with all my heart! :)

This is hard to review without spoilers, since making predictions for this last Harry Potter book was so much fun. I'll content myself with saying that Rowling resolved more plot points and lose ends than she left hanging, that many themes converged, and that it was a better novel than either Order of the Phoenix or Half-Blood Prince. Read Philosopher's Stone again, then Half-Blood Prince, then Deathly Hallows for the full effect of the chiasmus and resolution of the plot.

I don't think I have ever been as excited for a book to be released as I was for the final installment of the Harry Potter series. I pre-ordered my copy weeks in advance and stood in line on Friday night to claim my copy as early as possible. I had finished it by the following afternoon, and probably would have finished it sooner if it hadn't been so upsetting. There was a point in the book when I was so disappointed that I thought I would probably come out of it hating the entire book. After some reflection and conversation with a fellow fan, I feel better about it. I do think it ended pretty much the way it had to, things made sense, some of my theories were vindicated, and the thing that I had feared most going in to it had failed to happen. However, I feel that some of the tragedies in the book were done, not to add to the story, but for the flat-out sensationalism of doing them. An example of this is the first death in the book, which seemed to be merely a tool for getting rid of a character Rowling didn't know what to do with during Harry's travels. I think Rowling has shown this type of sensationalism before. In Order of the Phoenix, it had leaked that a major character was going to die, so Rowling made us think it was everyone else before she finally got around to Sirius. On the plus side, as with all the other books in the series, I was completely involved in what I was reading. I cried at least six times during the book, and for pretty much the last four or five chapters. She also kept the humor that I have loved in all of her books. And, I think she was true to all of the characters. Nothing happened that I thought was out of character or didn't comply with the world she had created in the first six books. All in all, the book was ok, fine, decent for a Harry Potter book, which is a long way of saying that it was wonderful, but just not quite as wonderful as I feel Rowling is capable of.

so, i started rereading the series a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of the movie and this book. what i noticed as i read was that the first couple of books bring in to play many things that are pivotal to the plot throughout the later books. heck, sirius is mentioned in the first couple of pages of book one. this took quite a lot of planning. this book was good. maybe not the best of the lot, but certainly a good way to finish. i need to reread the last few chapters again as i was pretty sleepy by that point and there are a few things that were unclear to me when i woke up this morning. if you haven't yet started reading this book and you haven't read the other books in a while, i highly recommend rereading the first 6. i only got to book 4 before i purchased my copy of the deathly hallows and had forgotten information from books 5 & 6 that harry guys would bring up w/out much background context. what really made the story move along in [t]the deathly hallows[/t] was that rowling finally stopped reintroducing things and explaining things to death. though this was also a flaw at times when i couldn't quite remember certain things. anyway, if you like harry potter, you'll be reading this book. hope you enjoy it. i know i did.

This, the final installment in the Harry Potter series, does not disappoint, and is not, in any way, a tacked-on book. This thick, richly detailed, fast-moving story grabs you fast, and pulls you through to the very last page. Yes, I cried. I laughed. There were deaths, and some hit hard. But, there is a golden ray of joy running through this, which glitters and twinkles through the darkest passages. Well worth taking an entire day or weekend, putting on the kettle, and nestling in with.

I am glad to see that JK Rowling does not write the final book without some reality (as much as you can get in a book about witches and wizards). It is good to see that all the characters are growing up and are dealing with real issues of love and loss and life in general. Once again, Rowling does a wonderful job and wraps up the tale in a neat and tidy way.

--for the most part spoiler free-- I'm hard pressed to say this was my favorite of the books (three is very close to my heart-with the introduction of Lupin and the Maruader's Map and all), but it is certainly right up there. I know Rowling has been quoted as having this whole thing planned out since book one, but I never would have believed it until I read this one. I was frankly amazed at all the unresolved plot points I had forgotten about over the years between the numerous books. Questions I had been wondering about certain characters actions and why certain things had happened the way they did are all explained here. This is probably the darkest of all the books (Order of the Phoenix being a close second) but it's handled well and everything that happens makes sense. It pretty much had to be the darkest considering this is the one that everything has been leading to since book one. The 700+ pages move at a breakneck pace. I honestly could not bring myself to stop reading just having to know what was going to happen next. I won't give away anything about the ending except that it is EPIC. The last 100 pages or so you will not be able to stop reading. Enjoy!!!

***Note: Some broad, vaguely worded spoilers.**** This is my least favorite Harry Potter book and it hurts to say so. I am a big fan, and have been since my older brother snuck me a copy (beneath my evangelical father's eyes) of Sorcerer's Stone. I am now all grown up and reading Harry Potter has been, in many ways, the mile marks of childhood for me. Let it be known that I don't give criticisms to JK Rowling lightly, and that while a great deal of what I have to say is negative, it's my honest opinion, and not disgruntled fanmenship. I was at my local bookstore by 5 p.m. on Friday night and hit about the middle part of the line at the stroke of midnight. By 9 am on Saturday I was finished, finished, finished... Despite my desperately anxious reading, many parts of the story dragged and it just didn't FEEL like Harry Potter. Hogwarts took second stage next to the hectic, dangerous travels of our fine trio. When the pieces started falling (from the sky, as it were) into place there was a hurriedness, a randomness, a helter-skelter dissonance that bothered me like an itch. The ending tasted like raw sugar by the spoonfull--it left me with a stomach ache, and frankly, it read like poorly written fan-fiction. Rowling thrives on dialogue, indeed, I'd say she's one of the best writers of dialogue I've ever read. Yet she doesn't capitalize on that large talent, instead relying on a tentative weakness: the contemplative Harry. This was a grand mistake on her part. We all knew, coming into this book, that there would be huge revelations about our favorite sadistic teacher. Sadly those revelations were anti-climactic, seen through the Pensieve and in the middle of a large...er..."disturbance" in the continuing present of Harry Potter Land. To remove Harry from the emotion of the present and put him in a calcified rendition of the past was jerky and rang false. In this sense there was no closure with Snape; Harry never got his showdown; Snape never got his moment of revelation where he shivers in all his bitters. I missed that interaction very much. I was looking forward to it. That is the crux of my disappointment in the book: Harry's isolation and silence. Harry has always, always relied upon a wide bevy of friends, even in Order of the Phoenix, only marching to do battle alone at the emotional climax, wherein with a stroke of luck, he saves the day. In this book he remained continually withdrawn. I didn't laugh much, I didn't cry, and I felt trapped in a bubble throughout. I felt ostracized from this last book. Some more problems I had with Harry Potter the Final: -The individual deaths seemed to have no meaning in relation to the overall plot and character progression. In this way, they seemed gratuitous. Rowling has said in interviews that she gave one character a reprieve and as a result gave two others the slash. I have an idea which character got the reprieve, and think, while I would have been devastated at that death, it would have been a better book with that death, and without the obvious two deaths she opted for. It would have had meaning to the overall arc and swing. As was, I blinked slightly at two of my favorite characters' demise and plunged on without a tear. -Too condensed. I felt like I was in a college lecture: Harry Potter 101. Interesting to the fan like me, but a novel isn't an encyclopedia, and shouldn't be made into one. Okay. Okay. Enough of the negatives. Let's face it: This is Harry Potter! And all of us here love Harry. What were the things I loved? -Just seeing my beloved characters. I missed them, and love them as if they were real. As long as they're around, even if they're not talking and even doing alot of dying, I'm happy. -Harry Potter all grown up. I kept wondering throughout the frantic travelings if Harry Potter had a moustacne? A beard? Ron did at one point. I wonder if Harry got all prickly. -Closure. Yeah. No more guessing. We know now. And the intricacies of plot were fantabulous. Thank you, JK. In the second to the last chapter I swallowed hard. The last page! I saw Harry exit the pages before my eyes, walk through an open door. I felt like my childhood had just waved goodbye and maybe it just did. Goodbye Harry Potter. We will all miss you!

In my opinion Harry and Voldemort both will die. The night when Voldemort kill Harry's parents ( James and Lilly Potter) he accidentally make Harry a Horcrux . So in order to kill Voldemort Harry must have to destroy the last Horcrux which must be its Scar. It shall be a great book like the previous ones full of mysteries, fun, emotions and romance. I hope that it will beat all the previous books in that wonderful series.

Will Harry Live? Will Harry Love? Will we survive until the book is released? Too many questions but our passion for Harry Potter and the magical world he lives in will help us wait to finally know how the battle between Harry and Lord Voldemont ends.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only Snape fan out there! How many people think Dumbledore is still alive? I also wonder if Dumbledore's brother will make an appearance in this book. Numbers 3 and 6 were my favorites.

Can't rate it yet because I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure Rowling has a few tricks yet up her sleeve. I agree it is a bittersweet moment! And I wager that Snape is going to be revealed as having been trustworthy all along.

Ah, what a bittersweet moment. You want to know what happens so badly, but it is over. The end of an era. I hope there will be other books that young people can obsess about that are of the same caliber these stories are...but I doubt it. :)

The thing I love most about the HP series is that when I read the books I feel like a kid again! I am so sad that it is all coming to an end. Luckily I can always re-read the books over and over again, which I know I will obsessively do for years to come.

I am so glad the final book has it's release date and I only have to wait impatiantly for another few months. Will I make it? I am sad that it's coming to an end, but I guess good things have to come to an end sometime. Can't wait to find out what happens. So, until July 21...

To the one that said $30 is too much well ... Powels normally is the cheep place for books but then not everyone can always have the best price. Powels will offer a better litterary assistance though outpost.com does offer pre-order at $18.99. outpost.com is a home electronics store. If you're local to Portland, Fry's home electronics is in Wilsonville; outpost.com is their site. I don't suggest being cheep all the time and well if you go all the way to Wilsonville just for the book, you spend a bit much on gas.

I can't wait for the 7th Harry Potter book to come out! All of the other books brought more questions and they all have to be answered in this final book. All of the other books were really interesting and exciting and I predict that this book will also be. I can't wait until July!

I am rating the 7th book high because I believe alot of people are expecting alot out of the book. There are questions that people need answers to. I have read all the books and I am excited and nervouse because I won't know, for sure what the 7th book will bring since Harry Potter and Vauldemort are connected. I'm hoping to read the 7th ASP if I can borrow a book from someone $30 is a bit high a price for me to spend on a book.

Hallows is a confusing word! This frustrates me because all of the other titles...WERE SO MUCH MORE ACCESSIBLE! Except for the Philosopher's stone...buuuut that'sprolly cuz'a culture barrier between England and America keeps me from fully understanding the meaning of "Philosopher" from the British perspective. Which is probably why they changed the American publication's title to the "Sorcerer's Stone". Anyway, I guess what I'm kinda tryin' a say is "Hallows"is a trif'e inaccessible to the American public. MAKE IT BETTERER!

I'm sure HP-7 will be the best of the best, and I'm having a hard time waiting for it to come out this summer. Meanwhile, I'd like to suggest a new series for those like me who "can't wait" called "FABLEHAVEN" by Brandon Mull. This book, like HP-1, starts out with younger children, a brother and sister ages 11 and 13, with promises to keep new books coming. (Book 2 will be out in May). I really enjoyed FABLEHAVEN, and the way Mull weaves the lives of modern-day kids into a fantasy world so believable, you'll start planning a family vacation to FABLEHAVEN until you remember it's fiction. My 17 year-old son (who is a Harry Potter fanatic) said he liked it more than HARRY POTTER! I don't know that I'd go that far yet, but FABLEHAVEN is a seriously fun and imaginative read for fantasy fans of all ages, and is available here on Powells.com.

As all of us have been waiting ever so patiently for the seventh and (assumed) final book in the Harry Potter Series we, frankly, don't know what to expect. So many rumors have been running around some outrageous and some that make us stop and ask "Would JK Rowling really do that?". Personally I can't wait to see just what this author has in store for all of her avid readers. I am sure that I will be there opening night (along with many many more) waiting to get my hands on the book that will consume control of my life until it is completely finished being read. So I say to all you Muggles out there, I hope you enjoy this final glimps of the Wizarding World.

I AM SOOOOO EXCITED ABOUT THIS BOOK!!! The last one in the Potter series! I have mixed feelings about it, not about the content that I'm sure will be wonderful, for me it's about the release. I've waited so long for it and yet its equivalent to the ending of an era. I've grown up reading these books, I've slowly watched myself grow up along with Harry. Because of that I am expecting alot from the last one, but knowing JKR, I'm sure she'll hand me something totally unexpected that will be so much better then I could have ever thought up. Like I said earlier SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!
