Tran Quang Quy's poetry represents the best of the post-war generation of writers to emerge across Viet Nam during the last forty-five years. In the hands of two accomplished poets and literary translators in their own right, the English versions of these poems remarkably capture the deep undertone of irony that runs through Quy's poems. This collection is an important contribution to the enduring effort by writers on both sides of the war to reconcile through the power of literary translation; no less than that is at stake here.
