Synopses & Reviews
India is not just a geography or history. It is not only a nation, a country, a mere piece of land. It is something more: it is a metaphor, poetry, something invisible but very tangible. It is vibrating with certain energy fields that no other country can claim.
For almost ten thousand years, thousands of people have reached to the ultimate explosion of consciousness. Their vibration is still alive, their impact is in the very air; you just need a certain perceptivity, a certain capacity to receive the invisible that surrounds this strange land.
It is strange because it has renounced everything for a single search, the search for the truth.
In these pages, we are treated to a spellbinding vision of what Osho calls "the real India," the India that has given birth to enlightened mystics and master musicians, to the inspired poetry of the Upanishads and the breathtaking architecture of the Taj Mahal. We travel through the landscape of India's golden past with Alexander the Great and meet the strange people he met along the way. We are given a front-row seat in the proceedings of the legendary court of the Moghul Emperor Akbar, and an insider's view of the assemblies of Gautama the Buddha and his disciples.
In the process, we discover just what it is about India that has made it a magnet for seekers for centuries, and the importance of India's unique contribution to our human search for truth.
Review
"Few people have understood India like Osho. It was an understanding at many levels: the philosophical, the historic, the purely emotional-- and even the political and literary, the wanton and the spiritual. His was a holistic understanding, an understanding that went beyond words, into the unchartered terrain of true love."--Pritish Nandy, journalist and TV personality
About the Author
Osho's teachings defy categorization, covering everything from the individual quest for meaning to the most urgent social and political issues facing society today. His books are not written but are transcribed from audio and video recordings of extemporaneous talks given in response to questions over a period of 35 years. Osho has been described by the
Sunday Times in London as one of the "1000 Makers of the 20th Century" and by
Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people-- along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha-- who have changed the destiny of India.
About his work Osho has said that he is helping to create the conditions for the birth of a new kind of human being. He has often characterized this new human being as "Zorba the Buddha"-- capable of both enjoying the earthy pleasures of a Zorba the Greek and the silent serenity of a Gautama the Buddha. Running like a thread through all aspects of Osho's work is a vision that encompasses both the timeless wisdom of the East and the highest potential of Western science and technology.
He is also know for his revolutionary contribution to the science of inner transformation, with an approach to meditation that acknowledges the accelerated pace of contemporary life. His unique "Active Meditations" are designed to first release the accumulated stresses of body and mind, so that it is easier to experience the thought-free and relaxed state of meditation.
There are two autobiographical works by Osho available in several languages: Autobiography of A Spiritually Incorrect Mystic, published by St. Martin's Press, 2000 and Glimpses of a Golden Childhood, published by The Rebel Publishing House, 1985.
The author's website www.osho.com offers a more detailed presentation of his work and meditations in several languages.
