Journey of Hope is a gallery of 100 vibrant, moving quilts inspired by Barack Obama and his path to the White House. Stitched by women and men from all walks of life, each quilt has a story to tell and is accompanied by an illuminating artist's statement. The quilts in this book are part of a prestigious traveling exhibit curated by the author, which begins in Japan, moves to the National Afro-American Museum, and then begins a tour of the United States. Filled with the spirit of hope and change that inspired Barack Obama's campaign, Journey of Hope is a testament to the American dream and the quilter's art.
About the Author
Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi is one of the world's most influential African American quilt historians and quilting artists. Her quilts are in numerous important collections, including the Smithsonian, and she has been featured on programs such as The Today Show and CBS Sunday Morning. Dr. Mazloomi is the founder of the Women of Color Quilters Network, a major force in fostering quiltmaking in the African American community, and she has curated many museum exhibits. Her current exhibit, "Textural Rhythms: Constructing the Jazz Tradition: Contemporary African American Quilts," can be seen at the American Folk Art Museum in New York.
