Dans mes previsions, l'oeuvre qu'on pourra lire ci-apres est l'avant-derniere de celles par lesquelles j'aurai tente, d'une part, d'indiquer quelques directions theatrales nouvelles, d'autre part, d'activer, par mon exemple, la production dramatique en Belgique ou elle fut longtemps inexistante et demeure encore timide ou nonchalante.

Dans chacune d'elles, j'ai suivi l'une ou l'autre des voies que j'avais expos'es au cours du livre que je rappelais tantt et qui devient ainsi une sorte de Pr'face g'n'rale a ce groupe de mes essais litt'raires. J'y parlais, notam ment, du Th'tre Synth'tique, du theatre d'id'es, par Opposition au th'tre aueca'otique, au th'tre de faits - divers, dans lequel, a quelques exceptions pr's, longtemps se confi n'rent, avec une lassante uniformit', la plupart des dramaturges, moins franais que cosmopolites, qui, Paris, alimentent la sc'ne.
