Renee Macalino Rutledge: Powell's Q&A: Renee Macalino Rutledge, author of 'One Hundred Percent Me' (0 comment)
Could you describe your latest book, One Hundred Percent Me?
A little girl is used to hearing questions about her looks all the time. "Where are you from?" "What are you?" These questions are a constant reminder from others that she is different. As she embraces her identity and culture, she teaches others that she belongs, that the differences they notice are part of what make her unique, special, and herself....

Publisher Comments

Last Night is a spellbinding collection of stories about passion-by turns fiery and subdued, destructive and redemptive, alluring and devastating. These ten powerful stories portray men and women in their most intimate moments. A lover of poetry is asked by his wife to give up what may be his most treasured relationship. A book dealer is forced to face the truth about his life. And in the title story, a translator assists his wifes suicide, even as he performs a last act of betrayal. James Salters assured style and emotional insight make him one of our most essential writers

A great short story writer at the top of is game. These stories are heartbreaking, but wonderful.

Every once in a while a book comes along that changes everything about the way I read and appreciate short fiction. Last Night is one of those books?a stunning collection of stories by a writer whose supple, understated prose is among the finest I know. These are masterful stories about men and women, memory and loss; but above all they are stories about desire?how unfulfilled longing defines and dismantles us. Believe me, open to the first story and read. I?m confident you?ll be unable to forget it.
