Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. I've loved Carr's fiction - The Angel of Darkness, etc. - and was intrigued to try out this non-fiction look at terrorism and its effect on its intended victims. Carr's style can get a little dry in places, but otherwise its a solid read. He sites specific instances throughout history, examines the motivations of both sides and describes how terrorist acts impacted, or failed to impact their intended victims. Its facinating in our current era to see how past cultures endured and prevailed.
