L'Ile Inconnue Elle n'est pas, comme on pourrait le supposer, dans l'ocean Pacifique ou dans l'ocean Glacial, mais a sept heures et demie de Paris, via Calais-Douvres. Quand le temps est clair, on apercoit meme, de la cote de France, ses falaises blanches. Cette ile, c'est l'Angleterre, le corps aux bras multiples du grand empire britannique. Des paquebots font la navette entre elle et nous, un cable nous relie, nous sommes en communication, nous ne sommes pas encore en communion. Pour la majorite des Francais, elle est terra incognita. Ils ne connaissent ni sa langue, ni le caractere vrai de ses habitants, ni leur histoire, ni leur litterature.
