Synopsis
Reclaim your life with this empowering guide to surviving Long COVID and finding community and care In March 2020, COVID-19 sent twenty-six-year-old Fiona Lowenstein to the hospital. Otherwise completely healthy, they were told they would recover easily. But after their shortness of breath subsided and they were discharged from the hospital, they developed new symptoms ranging from gastrointestinal problems to rashes and hives to migraines--what would come to be known as Long COVID.
Fiona felt alone in their healing process. They wanted information, and to connect with others who shared their experience, so they started an online support group for people infected with COVID-19 and those experiencing long-term symptoms. The response was overwhelming; in the last year, thousands of people have joined to support each other as they heal from or learn to live with Long COVID (also referred to as post-acute sequelae SARS-CoV-2 infection or PASC).
This one-of-a-kind book presents everything you need to know about living with and healing from Long COVID, through personal accounts from people who have experienced it themselves: award-winning journalists, social justice changemakers, chronic illness and disability activists, neuroscientists, artists, corporate strategists, and patient-researchers. With advice on navigating employment issues, managing fatigue and neurological symptoms, dealing with medical racism, taking care of your mental health, and more, this book provides much-needed answers and supports you through the uncharted territory of your Long COVID recovery.
Contributors include: Chim re L. Smith, Heather Hogan, Let cia Soares, Alison Sbrana, Karyn Bishof, Padma Priya, Miles Griffis, Karla Monterroso, Pato Hebert, Morgan Stephens, and Lauren Nichols
