I’m haunted by a handful of writers all long dead. They set the standard; naturally I fail. Anything I read of theirs promptly enters my bloodstream, whereupon mysterious internal fomentation proceeds. Y/N is simply the latest extrusion, a concerted one...

"Love Walked In" starts off from the snappy perspective of hip, cafe manager, Cornelia. The next chapter suddenly focuses on Clare, an 11-year-old girl across town with a big secret. As the chapters alternate, you can't help but wonder what will bring these two oddballs together. Just when you thought you knew what was going to happen, the plot takes a sharp, unexpected turn, and life gets messy. This heartbreaking story will continue to surprise you, almost to the end. Lyrical passages - particularly the last paragraph - betray the author's poetry roots. Grab some Kleenex, and let your mind walk into this lovely, quirky, tale.

This is the book I have been recommending to friends and family members since the moment I finished it. I waited until then because I wanted to be certain that something so beautifully written, so charming, tender, and funny could sustain its excellence until the very end. And it did! This is a lovely book, with characters you'll wish you knew, and by the end of the book you'll feel as if you do. At which point I have outstanding news for you--there is a sequel, equally lovely.

This book and its characters are instantly love-able. This is not some cut-and-paste romance. You can't predict how things will turn out or where the most important relationship will happen. The book is charming, quirky, and fun to read but also incredibly moving.

Some people only wish that they can begin to feel what the main characters feel through this entire book. It makes you take a look at your own life and wonder, "What am I missing?" It's a wonderful read, and you will talk about it for years to come.

If my local coffee shop had these people, I would be there every day! Can't wait to read more of her stories.

This was a very enjoyable read. I was relieved to find that it was not a Romance novel per se and had a bit more heft. You will really need to suspend your disbelief, and get past the predictability and 'amazing synchronicity' in this book but there is nothing wrong with just having an enjoyable 'brain-candy' read.

I loved this book! As soon as I realized I was reading another winner by de los Santos, I had to force myself to slow down and savor the story, knowing that once I finished, I wouldn't have a backlist to work through. Love Walked In is much more than chick lit. (I'd probably call it women's fiction.) While some readers have criticized the book for its predictability and contrived coincidences, I found it to be a very satisfying story filled with humor, touching moments, believable dialogue and characters that stay with you long after you close the book. I enjoyed all the references to classic movies and actors, children's literature and even found the description of Pancit so enticing I immediately went online in search of a recipe to try! I read Love Walked In after the sequel, Belong to Me, and have to say I liked it even better, probably because I really liked the younger Clare in this book. She's also in Belong to Me, but she’s more of a secondary character in the sequel. Oh, but then I really liked the character of Piper in Belong to Me! Hmmm, let's just say I loved both books and that I'm thrilled to have discovered Marisa de los Santos. I can hardly wait for her to write her next novel. Move over, Elizabeth Berg! de los Santos is my new must-buy-in-hardcover favorite. Fans of Jeanne Ray , Elizabeth Berg and Anna Quindlen won't be disappointed. I recommend both Love Walk In and Belong to Me for a great summer reading combo. Meanwhile, I hope Marisa is working on her third book, hopefully with more of Cornelia, Teo, Piper and Clare!

You might find the title a little off-putting, but it is a bigger kind of love than so many chick-lit books attempt. This is a story of all kinds of relationships and the many puzzles of love and life. The main characters are charming, complicated females. De Los Santos has captured wit in dialogue on a par with favorite black & white screwball comedies. The romance, friendships, & familial relationships are so satisfying and complicated! The unfolding plot will have you wishing for a rainy day and a quiet comfy spot to really fall into the world of this book.
