Synopsis
Helga, a German woman who served the F hrer as a concentration camp guard at Auschwitz, immigrated to the United States after World War II and settled in the Chicago suburbs. She lives a quiet life, until one day in 1964, when minor car trouble changes her life forever. Rose, a Polish-Jewish Holocaust survivor, lives in Skokie, Illinois, where she made a home with her second husband and their two sons. Almost twenty years after the war, life is shattered again when she recognizes a woman in a grocery store as the hated Helga, who had tortured her at Auschwitz. In disbelief that the United States would let a murderer live in peace, Rose visits Hugh O'Doyle, an agent with the Immigration and Naturalization Services, who reluctantly agrees to investigate Helga's immigration application. Can O'Doyle help bring Helga to justice?
