'The best of the best' is how Marshal Georgy Zhukov has been described by his fellow Russian generals. Some experts, East and West, say Georgi K. Zhukov was perhaps the best general on any front in the entire war. Zhukov's leadership on the field is shown in such epic battles as Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kursk and Berlin. Whenever there were problems at the front, Stalin called on Zhukov to put things right. So why did one of the greatest military commanders of the twentieth century end his life in obscurity? This book holds the answers. From August 1942 to the end of the war, Zhukov was Deputy Supreme Commander, that is, Stalin's right-hand man. Four times he was awarded the gold star hero medal, the highest medal for battlefield valour. Dozens of nations gave him honors, as did presidents and prime ministers of various nations that fought on the Allied side. But, despite all his achievements and decorations, Zhukov suffered at the hand of Stalin's jealousy and upon his return to Russia after the war, was announced as an un-person and sent away on pointless appointments far-away from Moscow. Zhukov's outstanding military record and his relations with Stalin are the core of this fascinating book.
