Synopsis
This is not a history. Nor is it fiction. It is a story set in a historical framework, dealing with people who actually lived and events which actually took place. Since it is a story rather than a literal recitation of events, some fictional devices are inevitable, for the exigencies of storytelling are as demanding and as rigorous in their own way as are those of recording history.
