Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Review

Praise for the Matched Trilogy:

"This futuristic fable of love and free will asks: Can there be freedom without choice? The tale of Cassia's journey from acceptance to rebellion will draw you in and leave you wanting more." --Cassandra Clare, New York Times-bestselling author of The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments series

"A superb dystopian romance." --The Wall Street Journal

"The hottest YA title to hit bookstores since The Hunger Games." --Entertainment Weekly

"A fierce, unforgettable page-turner." --Kirkus, starred review

"Condie's enthralling and twisty dystopian plot is well served by her intriguing characters and fine writing....Cassia's metamorphosis is gripping and satisfying." --Publishers Weekly, starred review

"Condies prose is immediate and unadorned, with sudden pings of lush lyricism [and] reveals seeming to arrive on almost every page." --Kirkus, starred review

"Distinct...authentic...poetic." --School Library Journal

"Love triangle + struggle against the powers that be = perfect escape." --MTV.com

Great read. Interesting story line. A lot of action and makes you think what would happen if you took the other road.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Crossed series. Matched was the perfect science fiction meets forbidden love story. The characters are real and relatable and the concepts behind the society Cassia lives in are fascinating. If you loved Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, you'll love this new series!

(Synopsis provided by goodreads) I was so excited to read this novel, the beautiful cover the buzz it got before publication, for me, the book was just okay. It should be said that I am not the biggest fan of dystopian novels. The writing was good, the character development and the dialog was good, but for me Cassia the main girl, I found to be not very likable. I found her to be selfish and kind of boring. I did like Xander I found him to be very interesting and I really wish there would have been more of him. I wish it was told from his point of view not Cassia’s. I do hope the second book in this series is better, I do plan on reading it, maybe it will change my mind. Again dystopian novels are not my favorite things to read. I really wish we knew more about the Society. We don’t know much about them, we have no idea who they are or possibly what they are. I wanted to know more about them and more about the Officials. I think if I had more information about them, I could have enjoyed the novel more. Overall rating **1/2 2 ½ out of 5 stars Cover art: It’s beautiful! Obtained: My personal library.

I really enjoyed this book. I see that alot of people on Goodreads are saying it just like The Giver, but I found it to different in a few majoy ways. First The main character Cassia is rebelling for love. She has fallen for someone that she can never have. This causes her to see her society in a different way for the first time. Her choices affect not only herself, but her best friends, family, and the man she loves. Great read. Can not wait for the next one!

I noticed that many people on Goodreads didn't like this book because the theme of a utopian society was the same theme as in other books like "The Giver." However, what book isn't a re-make? (By the way, the first book I read with this theme was Huxley's "A Brave New World" which predates "The Giver" by 20 years). I thought that "Matched" treated this theme in a very refreshing way. What freedoms are we willing to give up in pursuit of the "perfect" society? Since 9/11, many of our basic individual rights have been curtailed or eliminated in order to "protect" us. But through this book, we can see how far this can be taken and ultimately what price we all pay. In the way of all good science fiction stories, this book presents issues we face today in a novel and entertaining setting making the reader re-think our own conclusions about acceptable and not. I really enjoyed this book and am eagerly awaiting the second in the trilogy.
