Merleau-Ponty todav a puede cargar con justicia aquel t tulo a la vez demasiado vago y demasiado pesado que algunos contempor neos le concedieron al hablar del "fil sofo del cuerpo." El prop sito dominante y singular de su obra reside en volver a mirar con nuevos ojos los misterios de nuestra experiencia carnal y sensible. Abrir lalectura del corpus merleaupontyano s lo puede significar entonces abrir de nuevo la interrogaci n por el cuerpo, escuchar y dar expresi n filos fica a ese otro yo que somos y que nos interpela sin hablar: "este cuerpo actual que llamo m o, el centinela que asiste silenciosamente a mis palabras y mis actos." Para volver a pensar radicalmente qu es el cuerpo m s all de la definici n residual provista por el dualismo cartesiano Merleau-Ponty recurre a las herramientas metodol gicas provistas por la fenomenolog a de Husserl: una filosof a de la "conciencia trascendental" que Merleau-Ponty revelar como heredera secreta de la revoluci n intelectual iniciada por los pensadores decimon nicos de la animalidad, del inconciente, de la historia y del cuerpo.
