Synopses & Reviews
The Mobil Travel Guide stars are a 45-year-old consumer advocacy concept originally developed after the introduction of the interstate highway system. The goal of the planners is not to identify and rate every property in the country, but to recommend only the best of each category, the ones that we would send our customers to. We look at the stars from a consumer's point of view, rating hotels and restaurants across North America from the perspective of the "average traveler." New in 2004, enhanced descriptions provide more detail on attractions, lodgings, and restaurants, giving readers a sense of the experience they can expect at each establishment. Additional attractions have been added for the most popular destinations to give travelers more options for what to see and do in the cities they choose to visit. The planners have been divided into more drivable regions, and content for important locations or sites that lie just outside the title region has been included for readers' convenience. Large map sections reside in the front of the books for easy reference. The 2004 editions have also been reformatted for better usability based on qualified consumer feedback. We have reverted to the larger trim size and lay-flat binding and have redesigned the interiors for easier readability and greater eye appeal. Each regional planner is organized alphabetically by state, with introductory information about the state followed by city listings in alphabetical order. For each city, the planner lists recommended sites and attractions and Mobil One-to Five-Star rated lodgings and restaurants.

The remainder is devoted to travel destinations within the state ¿ mainly cities and towns, but also national and state parks and tourist areas ¿ which are arranged alphabetically.
Only facilities that meet Mobil Travel Guide's standards earn the privilege of being listed in this guide. Our One to Five-Star rating system highlights each facility's level of service. These ratings are updated annually.
