Synopsis
Excerpt from My Years at the Austrian Court: With Sixteenth Illustrations
Since the writing of this volume of reminiscences, Warsaw, the capital of Russian Poland, has been captured by Austro-German forces and the Russian armies have been forced to evacuate Galicia.
Rumour now has it that Poland is to be united under a king once more, and that Archduke Karl Stefan of Austria is to be offered the throne.
I spent many months at the Archdukes castle in Galicia, and can affirm that the Poles in that neighbourhood have much affection and esteem for the kindly Archduke and his family. Two of his daughters, Archduchesses Renata and Mechtildis, are married to distinguished members of the Polish nobility, the first to Prince Jerome Radziwill, and the second to Prince Olgierd Czartoryski.
