As far as introductions to contemporary poetry from Northern Ireland goes, this is a solid choice. The poets included display a consistency in quality and a plurality of voice and style; with at least six (and usually more!) poems per writer, it's easy to get a general feel for an individual poet's work. Helpful too are the shorter sets from the more established poets (Seamus Heaney, Paul Muldoon, Michael Longley, Ciaran Carson, Derek Mahon, Medbh McGuckian) that provide context, as does the lengthy introduction by editor Chris Agee. There are also a few selections in Gaelic, for the more serious scholar of this vibrant poetic milieu. Highly recommended.
