Powell's Staff: New Literature in Translation: December 2022 and January 2023 (0 comment)
It may be a new year, this may be a list of new books, but our love for literature in translation hasn’t changed at all, and we are so pleased to be enthusiastically recommending these recent releases. On this list, you’ll find a Spanish novel where controversy swirls around a Coca-Cola billboard...

Publisher Comments

Dawn Dais hated running. And it didn't like her much, either. Her fitness routine consisted of avoiding the stairs in her own house, because who really has the energy to climb stairs? It was with this exercise philosophy firmly in place that she set off to complete a marathon.

The Nonrunner's Marathon Guide for Women is a fun training manual for women who don't believe that running is their biological destiny but who dream of crossing the finish line nonetheless. Revised in 2013, it now includes a new chapter on using technology as a training aid.

Daiss book features a realistic training schedule and is chock-full of how-to's, quizzes, and funny observations, which she felt were lacking in the guides she had consulted. She also integrates entries from her journal, sharing everything would-be marathoners need to know about the gear, the blisters, the early morning workouts, the late-night carb binges, and—most important of all—the amazing rewards.

Anyone can do a marathon. This book just makes the experience a little more bearable and a lot more fun.

Synopsis

Sharing the author's own journal entries, this humorous training manual helps readers get in touch with their inner runner, dispensing a wealth of advice that every would-be marathoner needs to know, from the right gear to late-night carb binges. Original.

I checked this book out at the library and enjoyed it so much that I'm buying a copy for myself and a friend. This was hilarious (I mean, laughing-out-loud hilarious), informative and inspirational. Dawn's journal entries were the best part and at the end of the book, I felt like I gained a running partner, or commiserator at least! I highly, highly recommend this book for anyone who is a runner, wants to be a runner, or anyone just wants a good laugh from this great read.
