From the New York Times bestselling author of The Family Fang, a moving and uproarious novel about a woman who finds meaning in her life when she begins caring for two children with a remarkable ability.

Lillian and Madison were unlikely roommates and yet inseparable friends at their elite boarding school. But then Lillian had to leave the school unexpectedly in the wake of a scandal and they've barely spoken since. Until now, when Lillian gets a letter from Madison pleading for her help.

Madison's twin stepkids are moving in with her family and she wants Lillian to be their caretaker. However, there's a catch: the twins spontaneously combust when they get agitated, flames igniting from their skin in a startling but beautiful way. Lillian is convinced Madison is pulling her leg, but it's the truth.

Thinking of her dead-end life at home, the life that has consistently disappointed her, Lillian figures she has nothing to lose. Over the course of one humid, demanding summer, Lillian and the twins learn to trust each other — and stay cool — while also staying out of the way of Madison's buttoned-up politician husband. Surprised by her own ingenuity yet unused to the intense feelings of protectiveness she feels for them, Lillian ultimately begins to accept that she needs these strange children as much as they need her — urgently and fiercely. Couldn't this be the start of the amazing life she'd always hoped for?

With white-hot wit and a big, tender heart, Kevin Wilson has written his best book yet — a most unusual story of parental love.

Though it is fast and fairly easy to read, this book is chalk full of emotions and relatable characters. Along with a found family that is made through story with people who would never have connected had the events of this book not occurred, each character is well rounded and deep, with their own personalities, motives, and mindsets. This creates a feeling of a slice of real life, each person living in their own large and extraordinary world. Not only is this slice of life interesting but with the wonderful absurdity of the addition of spontaneous combustion added, this life becomes even more interesting. By struggling with the internal struggles of loneliness, abandonment, and a sense of belonging, as well as struggling with the fact that if these children get too emotional, they could burst into flames, this story never left me able to put it down. Not only is the idea of spontaneous combustion fascinating in connection to these children but the addition of this fantastical aspect elevates the book from dangerous to life threatening. As a forewarning, many characters in this book swear, but rather than pulling me out of the story, this language brought the characters to life. With genuine expectations and results from the characters', their reaction to the events in the plot in the story is exactly how I would imagine a regular person would react. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is willing to dive into the chaotic and fantastic imagination of Kevin Wilson

I absolutely adore this book! I read it all in one sitting, just completely forgoing any sleep, because I just could not put it down. This book immediately pulls you in and does not let go. The characters are all so unique given so much depth that it’s hard not to fall in love with them from the very beginning. It got to the point where I became so involved in the story and with the characters that I started to talk out loud to the characters. I have never been more grateful to live alone, otherwise I think my roommate might’ve killed me. The way that Wilson is able to make you both laugh and cry is simply astonishing. He carefully pulls you in with humor that just ever so slightly gets dialed down without you noticing until it’s too late. And then you’re forced to face the true emotions of this situation the characters are in. Nothing to See Here explores what it’s like to be an outcast and struggling to find where and with who you belong. It delves into the complexities of familial relationships and the lasting effect they have on us. Yet, despite the complex emotions Wilson makes you feel as you read this book, it is not a hard read. The language is perfect in it’s simplicity so you never have to worry about being lost or confused as you read. It is truly just a beautiful story that I think all should read.
