Kazantzakis took Homer's Odyssey, loped off the last two chapters and then wrote 22 chapters of his own...after Odysseus got back to Ithica. And, wonder of wonders, there is a copy waiting for me at Powells today. Turns out there are only 200 libraries in the world who have copies of this.
Oh, yes, Kazantzakis wrote Zorba the Greek, which you might be more familiar with.
