Synopsis
Excerpt from Private Dalzell, His Autobiography, Poems, and Comic War Papers, Sketch of John Gray, Washington's Last Soldier, Etc, Vol. 3
Of late, especially from the comrades of the Grand Army of the Republic and the gentlemen of the daily newspaper press, with whom my life for a quarter of a century has been largely passed, I have had numerous requests for my autograph and photograph, neither of which is a thing of beauty. And they have even asked me if I really existed at all except in the imagination and the newspapers. To all these inquiries I have re plied according to the facts, and whenever I could afford it I have uniformly sent my picture to all who sought it.
