Excerpt from Report of the Committee on Historical Research and Marking Local Sites of the Colonel Timothy Bigelow Chapter: Daughters of the American Revolution
After this permanent establishment of a town school in 1727 there were yearly appropriations for the support of the schools, varying in amounts, men tion of an occasional school-master by name, with record of his payment, or more often directions, that he shall repair to the house of there to keep school until some prescribed date. In other words. There was no specific building; the school was a moving school. A feature continued even after the first school-house was built, as will be noted later.
