Synopsis
Excerpt from Report of the Union Committee Appointed by the Meeting of the Signers of the Memorial to Congress, Held on the 11th Day of February, 1834, at the Merchants Exchange, in the City of New-York
Upon the whole, the Committee entertain a confident hope that the accommodations now given by the banks will not be lessened during the ensuing months; but cannot hold out the expectation of any material increase. The only mode by which some relief can be obtained from that source, without increasing the liabilities of the Banks payable on de mand, which suggests itself, is some uniform plan for an increase of special deposites, bearing a moderate rate of interest, and not to be withdrawn before stated periods ao cording to agreement.
