Janice P. Nimura: Stand in the Place Where They Were (0 comment)
I’ve always loved historic house museums, loved peering beyond the velvet rope into a Victorian bedroom or a colonial kitchen and imagining the ghosts that wore those dresses, or worked the handle of that butter churn, or laid the fire in that grate...

At the age of twenty, George Ritchie died in an Army hospital. Nine minutes later, he returned to life. What happened to him during those minutes was so compelling that it changed his life forever. In Return from Tomorrow, Ritchie tells of his transforming encounter with the Son of God, who led him to encounters with other nonphysical beings at the very doorway of eternity. Ritchie's extraordinary experience not only altered his view of eternity, but it has also altered the lives of hundreds of thousands of readers. One of the most startling and hopeful descriptions of the realm beyond, this classic will inspire readers from all walks of life. It includes a brand-new preface from Elizabeth Sherrill.

This book offered a way of understanding choices we have in our lives like whether to live through the practice of love or to allow hate to absorb our thoughts. In the story, in the prison camps under Hitler's leadership, people were forced into some of the worst living conditions imaginable. One man in the story had an outcome from his experience that was much different than most. Earlier in the war, he was forced to watch his family murdered. But he had the awareness to realize that he had a choice in how he reacted to this horific event. He could allow hate to take over, as was illustrated by the soliders carrying out these orders, or make a radical choice to love no matter what circumstances he wittnessed. Because of his choice to remain under the state of love the results of his physical health were opposite of the expected results. He served as a leader and helper to the people in the camp he was held in for five years though he showed no pysical symptoms of the years of poor conditions. The doctor helping to care for the people in the camp after the war ended was astonished. This is a book that offers new ways to look at life choices and hardships. And it offers an awareness of human potential that is often forgotten in the struggles of everyday life.
