The Perfect book for this dark time. When it feels like civilization is crashing in on us from three directions, how perfect to get advice from an indigenous epistemologist, Tyson Yunkaporta. He has hung out and shared stories with many indigenous folks, who have felt our boot on their neck for generations. . . and can still laugh. Indeed one must laugh to not just deal with our current frubar, but learn.
If you want the answer to your problems, this ain't it. And Tyson might say you might be looking in the wrong place, if you think an answer will fix this mess. But with the guidance and subtle thinking provided in this book, you may find your path, and your karass.
For me, this is a world shaking book, and I thought I was sophisticated already. Ha! I do not believe one reading of this book will work for me. It offers a kind of perspective that allows me to see how my mind has been working against me. I love the earth, my folks were raised by homesteaders and I thought I was a tree hugger and already was friends with some Warm Springs and Umatilla and Nez Perce folks. Wow.
Nothing better than an earth connection, and I am learning that is more than an individual thing. It takes a village.
I leave you with this quip from the book. Tyson said that there is one thing the first peoples the indigenous had on the second peoples, we that colonized this place. The first people knew how to deal with idiots. ; - )
