Synopses & Reviews
Aspiring reporter Sylvia Golubowsky sits in the steno pool at the tabloid New York Star, along with every other girl whose eyes are on the next step up the ladder. Across town at a rival paper, gossip columnist Austin Van Cleeve rules New York with his razor-sharp pen. In the village, Cal Byfield is stuck flipping hamburgers to support his dream of a Negro theatre on Broadway. These three characters, each with their own distinctive voices, collide in compelling and startling ways against the backdrop of McCarthy-era New York City in a tour de force of invention and interlocking drama.
