I saw Jim on an Oregon Field Guide re-run, and contacted him. Early in July, I was privileged to accompany him, and band an American Kestrel. I wanted to get this book before we met him, but failed to do so. He gave us a copy. Suffice to say, Jim is a naturalist and a natural-born writer. Tales from his growing up on a farm in the eastern US, time spent as an educator with OMSI, and his years banding all types of raptors in eastern and central Oregon continue to delight and amuse me. I am amazed that he is still doing this work at 86!
