Synopsis
Excerpt from Ten Thousand Miles in a Yacht: Round the West Indies and Up the Amazon
To him who has visited the Lesser Antilles, and even more seriously to him who has not, I recommend the reading of Lafcadio Hearn's book on Martinique and the other islands. It was in this that he first showed that wonderful capacity for putting atmosphere and color into words that subsequently made his books on Japan so altogether unique. To anyone who is interested in Mr. Arthur's little story, I should say, if it stimulates you to a desire for more, turn to Lafcadio Hearn, and all who do so will, I know, thank me for the suggestion, even though they know the book already, for it may be read many times and always with more won der than before at the rare skill of the author.
